Glassboro Public Schools Board of Education Ratifies New Contracts and Approves Curriculum Updates at September Meeting
At their September 18th meeting, the Glassboro Board of Education approved the appointment of several new staff members and ratified numerous contracts and curriculum changes. The Board also heard updates from Superintendent Dr. Mark Silverstein and Chief Academic Officer Craig Stephenson.
Key Decisions
Personnel: The Board approved the ratification of contracts for several new staff members, including a new principal for Thomas E. Bowe Middle School and a new science teacher at the same school.
Curriculum: The Board approved revisions to the curriculum for social studies and ELA. The changes reflect the new 2023 NJSLS for English/Language Arts and minor revisions to pacing and activities.
Out-of-District Placements: The Board ratified out-of-district placements for several students for the 2024-25 school year.
Contracts: The Board approved contracts with several vendors, including a contract for translation services and a contract with the Gloucester County Vocational-Technical School District.
Other Business
The Board heard updates from Dr. Silverstein and Mr. Stephenson. Dr. Silverstein discussed the opening of school and addressed an unsubstantiated threat against the district. Mr. Stephenson provided an overview of the new cell phone policy committee.
The Board recognized and honored Vanessa Poggioli as Gloucester County Teacher of the Year.
The Board also heard a report from Community Affairs Secretary Jody Rettig on the upcoming Sports Hall of Fame induction.
